The incidence of this disease in our region is stable with a cumulative rate of 114 cases per 100,000 population. In so far this year have been diagnosed 11 new cases since 1985 in Aragon and are detected the first HIV infections have been reported in the region 1517 AIDS cases.
Since 1985 until 30 June 2009, have been reported cases of AIDS in 1517 Aragon (Huesca 219, 100 in Teruel and Zaragoza 1198), representing a cumulative incidence rate of 114 cases per 100,000 versus the 115 last year. In 2009 we have been diagnosed 11 new cases. 77% of them are men, although recent data show that increasing the distance is less between the sexes in new infections. The age groups where most cases have been recorded are in the 25 to 39 years (66.4%) and in 40 to 59 (22%).

Although the use of intravenous drugs remains the most common form of transmission, there is a gradual increase in cases of unsafe sex, especially heterosexual. HIV testing is free and confidential. An early diagnosis of infection before the disease manifests itself, means you can benefit from early treatment and the availability of key information to prevent transmission of this virus.

Prevention of infection is the key to controlling this disease, hence the importance of continuing social awareness about protective measures against possible HIV infection. Furthermore, should strengthen the efforts of the society as a whole to avoid discrimination and stigmatization of patients. This year, to mark the World AIDS Day, we are reminded that HIV is not transmitted in daily contact. The slogans chosen are “If you kiss me, I will pass on tenderness”, “If you hire me, you convey professionalism” and “If we play together, you pass energy.”
